Karrin Sax, RNC, MSN, WHCNP
Women's Health Nurse Practitioner
Northwest Women's Health Care

As a nurse practitioner, I enjoy the challenges and rewards of helping women with their health care. I believe it is important to give the best care possible by listening to my patient's concerns and then optimize a course of treatment tailored to their individual needs. It is also vital to teach women the information they need to know so they can make informed decisions on their health care options.

I grew up in Minneapolis, St. Paul and obtained my nursing degree from Mankato State University in Minnesota in 1981. After graduating from nursing school, I joined the Air Force. During the first 8 years of my military career, I worked on the labor and delivery, nursery, postpartum and surgical units. In 1990, I became a Women's Health Care Nurse Practitioner and did that for the rest of my Air Force career. In 1994, I received my Masters in Maternal-Child Nursing from the University of Texas. I retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after 221/2 years of service in 2003.

I married my husband, Don in 1986. We have three wonderful children, two boys and our youngest is a girl. Over the years we have had the good fortune of being stationed in many places across the country and now feel blessed to call Montana home. My sister and her family live close by and it is nice enjoying the many things the region has to offer. We enjoy the friendly people here along with the outdoor and cultural activities. To relax our family enjoys many recreational activities, which include camping, fishing, hiking, kayaking and watching movies.

I am a member of the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses and the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women's Health. Both associations advocate continued research and education in women's health. I am also a District Representative for Advanced Nurse Practitioners in the Montana Nurses Association which promotes important legislation for nurses and their patients. My sincere hope is to make a small difference in the lives of the women I meet.
